Radioactive Waste

Call x2687 for waste pick up.

  • Leave your name, type and location of waste.
  • Let us know if you need a pick up immediately, or if it can wait.
  • You must have a waste log filled out before we can take the waste.

1. SOLID - Separate by radionuclide.

  • Plastic waste containers are provided for Solid Waste.
  • Most of them are operated by foot-pedals - this reduces the chance of contamination by hands.
  • Make sure they are lined with a plastic bag before use.
  • NEVER put liquids into the solid waste container. Please try to remove as much “liquid from your vials, tubes and tips before placing them in the waste container.
  • Fill out the Waste Log for that radionuclide EVERY TIME you put waste in the container.

2. LIQUID - Separating by radionuclide is optional.

Aqueous:

  • Plastic 20 liter carboys are provided for aqueous radioactive waste.
  • Keep the cap screwed on the carboys when they are not in use.
  • Fill out the Waste Log EVERY TIME you put waste in the container.
  • Please do not over-fill the containers. Please have them picked up when they are about 3/4 full.
  • If any solid objects fall into the liquid waste, please note that on the Waste Log.
