Ordering and Receipt of Radioactive Material and Machines
The Radiation Safety Officer (RSO x2507), or her designated
representative must approve all orders of radioactive material
or radiation-producing equipment, IN ADVANCE, before any order
can be placed. Approvals are marked with a stamp and signature
from the RSO (or designated representative) on the Purchase
Requisition.
The Radiation Safety staff must be notified of the arrival
date of the material to ensure that personnel are available
to receive and check in the material. This is especially
critical because all shipments of radioactive material are
no longer delivered to the Radiation Safety Office. All shipments
are picked up directly by RSO Staff from the Shipping and
Receiving Department and processed.
The RSO staff will check the packages and material for leaks,
records the receipt, then deliver the material to the User
with its respective Inventory Sheet. Each vial of material
will have its own Inventory Sheet and unique inventory number.
X-ray equipment shall be tested for leaks during the highest
energy level of expected operation before that equipment is
used for experiments.
