Occupational Health and Safety

Environmental Health and Instructional Safety provides safety services to the university community through technical support, information and training programs, consulting services, and periodic auditing of health and safety practices and regulatory compliance.

  • Department Safety Coordinators
This program was developed in 1992 when the university Injury and Illness Program was written. Department Safety Coordinators are the liaison to EH & IS and through their diligence in noting safety hazards the campus has maintained a low injury rate.

  • Driving/Transportation Safety
Driving can be a dangerous and complex activity. Employees that are required to drive as part of their job duties must observe the state requirement and the following guidelines.

  • Fire and Life Safety
Fire Prevention/Life Safety Programs are intended to protect the campus from the danger of fires and explosions.

  • Industrial Hygiene
The Industrial hygiene program is responsible for the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of environmental factors that may cause sickness or impairment of health. Programs include asbestos management, indoor air quality, respiratory protection, and more.

  • Injury and Illness Prevention
California requires that every employer establish and implement an effective injury and illness prevention program to maintain a safe and healthful work environment.

  • Occupational Safety
The Occupational Safety Program has been developed to respond to identified hazards in the workplace.

  • Sanitation/Food Safety
The campus sanitation inspections include drinking water, swimming pools, and food safety. This Program is intended to prevent food-borne illnesses and other communicable diseases. In addition, food inspection results are available to the public from this website and from the individual establishments.
