Medical and First Aid
- In the event of a serious injury or illness on campus,
immediately call University Police. Use a blue emergency
phone if not within a building. Give your name, describe
the nature and severity of the medial problem, and the campus
location of the victim.
Note: University Police has a direct line to the paramedics.
Officers are trained in CPR and First Aid.
- Quickly perform these four steps:
- Ask victim, "Are you okay?"
- Check pulse and breathing and give rescue breaths,
or CPR if necessary
- Control serious bleeding by direct pressure and elevation
of the wound.
- Keep victim still and comfortable. Have them lie down
if necessary.

- Continue to assist the victim until help arrives.
- Determine extent of injury or probable cause of illness.
- Protect from all disturbance, reassure the victim,
and do not move unless absolutely necessary.
- Look for emergency medical I.D., question witnesses
and give all information to University Police.
- In case of a minor injury or illness, provide first aid
care. Find out which of your co-workers is trained in CPR
& First Aid. Use the first aid materials that are available
in the nearest department office. After treatment, recommend
that the victim go to the Student Health & Counseling
Center or St. Jude Hospital. For transportation or for general
assistance, call University Police from any campus phone
by dialing 911.

- Thur., 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
